MTCES parents turning running into a productive endeavor

Every parent feels they run from sun up to sun down; the duties and responsibilities often leave moms and dads feeling as though they have completed a marathon. While some parents struggle with fatigue, a number of dedicated MTCES parents count on a regular running regiment to keep them one step ahead of life’s challenges.

MTCES Mom Kay Harmeyer celebrates her 2009 5K finish, when she was the top runner in her age group; she was followed closely by fellow MTCES moms Gretchen Carmosino and Gina Bucalo.

While Sara and David Coe and Danielle Gingrich are new MTCES parents, all three are avid runners. The Coes were among the parent volunteers giving tours at the recent MTCES Open House for new families, an effort that was followed by their regular evening run. The mother of three young children, Danielle manages to fit regular runs into her busy week, which includes volunteering in the classroom and helping with 5K planning and preparation.

Former MTCES Board Secretary and busy MTCES substitute teacher Jen Schuppe counts on her regular running routine to supplement her soccer training. She and her husband Chris are active in an adult, co-ed soccer league that includes many other MTCESers, including Wendi and Steve Evans.

Paula Iacobell lives life on the run. Her three sons are active in several sports, including baseball and hockey, and play on different teams, requiring that their mom possess scheduling skills to rival an air traffic controller. “It can get hectic, which is why I always find time to run; that time to myself provides me with the balance I need to juggle everyone’s schedules,” she remarked. “Running is what helps me deal with whatever life throws at me.”

These Mother Teresa 5K veterans are among the many MTCES parents already preparing for this year’s event; novice and experienced runners and walkers are welcome. We hope that you will take the time to do something great for yourself, and our school, and join us for the The Third Annual Mother Teresa 5K on Saturday, April 17th at VOA Park in West Chester.

The last weekend in March can be a great extended family celebration!

Out of town grandparents can enjoy a pre-Easter season visit with their MTCES-attending family; they can join their children for this great Saturday night event, celebrate Palm Sunday Mass with their family, and join their grandchildren on Monday, March 29th for Grandparents Day at MTCES Student Center.

Celebrate the end of the Lenten season, and the start of Spring with MTCES with two great events the last week in March.

The 9th Annual Extravaganza Auction, the school’s formal evening fundraiser, is Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Receptions in Fairfield. This year’s ‘Ganza features a Mardi Gras theme on Palm Sunday eve, and is a great way to celebrate with MTCES friends and neighbors.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and guests can begin bidding on silent auction items at 7 p.m. The Live Auction begins at 9 p.m, and other games and opportunities of chance include a raffle to win a year’s tuition, and a split the pot game.  Tickets prices have been rolled back to sixty dollars a person ($60); cocktail attire is required

MTCES grandparents are invited to join the fun, as some of the auction items have a special, unique appeal to both parents and grandparents. MTCES mom Heidi Burns is assisting MTCES Art teacher Corey McCarthy in creating and presenting one-of-a-kind, student-centric art for auction. These items include works that are created by students, or use student images as the focal point.

Auction items are not limited to these great works; a Tiffany necklace will be offered, along with the popular “win tuition for a year” raffle. The evening is also filled with great games, great music and incredible edible offerings.
