MTCES prepares for Easter with Grandparents, Seder Meal and Egg Hunt

The week before Easter Break was filled with both solemn and playful events. On Monday, March 29th, over three hundred grandparents, including adoptive grandparents from Hawthorne Glen, joined the four hundred and twenty MTCES students for box lunches and a fun-filled program. The entertainment included an encore performance of dance through the Ages by Mrs. Ocariz’s homeroom, which debuted at the school’s talent show in February.

On Thursday, April 1st, the entire school celebrated Holy Thursday with a Seder Meal hosted by the Sixth grade. Sister Anne explained the significance of the items on the menu, as members of Mrs. Hollestegge and Miss Ellerhorst’s classes served the food. Since the Last Supper was a Seder meal, Sister reminded everyone, especially the second graders, to remember the significance of this meal, where Jesus first offered the Holy Eucharist to his people, which we commemorate on Holy Thursday.

Kindergarten, first, second and third graders ended the last school day before break with an Easter egg hunt, coordinated by MTCES moms Kay Harmeyer and Christy Salek.

Batter up!
The MTCES baseball field is ready for some baseball.

The inaugural game on the new MTCES baseball diamond and field was held on Wednesday, March 31, 2010. Deacon Jerry Barney of St. John the Evangelist Church offered a blessing as the field was dedicated in a brief pre-game ceremony. MTCES Boosters President Jack Asher and MTCES Booster and Grounds Manager Dan Walter were acknowledged for their hard work and incredible efforts to build the field, by MTCES Baseball coordinator David Fischer.

The MTCES seventh grade boys team then took to the field to play the team from Cardinal Pacelli; and Matt Schneider earned the first Volunteer hit on the new field.

Go Volunteers!

MTCES plays Easter Bunny at Hawthorne Glen

Easter came four days early to some residents at Hawthorne Glen Nursing Home and Assisted Living in Middletown, Ohio. Baskets filled with goodies and art from MTCES students were delivered to several dozen residents of the center. MTCES mom Amy Japikse coordinated the effort, working with Kathy Helton of Hawthorne Glen to provide some cheer for residents. Earlier in the week, Mrs. Japikse organized the inclusion of MTCES adopted grandparents in the school’s annual Grandparents’ Day celebration.
