Golfers get set for two great events
MTCES golfers have not one, but two chances to get out on the links in support of our school this season. The Eleventh Annual MTCES Golf Scramble will be held Friday, May 21st at the Beckett Ridge Country Club in West Chester. Then the decade-old spring tradition moves to September, with an inaugural fall offering on Friday, September 24th.
“While the Spring Scramble has been a great success, we found that many golfers would like a fall offering,” explained Chris Roth, MTCES Parent and Golf Outing Co-Chair. “Since our long-time supporters have looked forward to a spring event, we decided to offer one, and then move the scramble to the fall.” As an added incentive to enjoy both the beginning and end of the golf season with MTCES, reduced rates are offered to golfers purchasing tickets for both events. “If you sign up this spring to golf at both events, the total cost is $200, a savings of $50 over the cost of two events,” explained Doug Edwards, MTCES Parent and Golf Outing Co-Chair. “We hope people will support our school, and have fun on the links with MTCES twice this year.”
Individual tickets for the spring event are available at $125 a person, with foursomes at $500. Foursomes can sign up for both events for $800.00; contact Noel Balster at 513-779-6585 to make your reservation, or for sponsorship information.
Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. A silent auction featuring great sports memorabilia from Advanced Sports Marketing commences following play, and the afternoon ends with the prize raffle drawing.
Taking religion out of the textbooks and into the conclave
There is more to eighth grade religion class than preparing for confirmation . Mr. Joe Crachiolo wants his students to be knowledgeable about their Catholic faith, and its unique history and traditions. Since the students will attend high schools founded by religious orders, he thought that they should learn about the objectives, practices and philosophies of these orders. So he assigned each student an order to study, and Mr. C also gave a presentation. In addition, the classes also enjoyed visits from Father August (Gus) Guppenberger, a priest with the Glenmary Home Missionaries, and our principal Sister Anne Schulz who shared her knowledge of the Sisters of the Precious Blood order.
A few weeks later, the students had the opportunity to experience what it would be like to be a member of the College of Cardinals and elect a pope. While the Sister Anne Student Center cannot match the Vatican’s splendor and comfort---and the use of smoke to signal a decision had been made was not possible, it doubled for the Sistine Chapel, as the students were cloistered in an area of the gym to vote. It took over a half dozen votes before achieving the electoral majority of two thirds plus one vote as set by Pope Pius XII. Jeff and Sarah D. were selected by their respective homeroom classes to serve as Pontiff.
With two months left in the school year, it will be interesting to see what other experiences Mr. C. develops for his students.
